Notes: I love this vest! I absolutely had so much fun making it and following the tutorials and pattern by Bethany Lynne Makes. I recommend you head over to her website for all the details and start this project immediately! I had the joy of making this project with my Mumsie and now this vest will forever hold those memories of making along side someone I love! Have a look at my process video here!
I did end up altering the layout of the pattern slightly to adjust for sizing and it's worth noting, I held two strands of yarn together for all the colours to get gauge. I am generally a size 14 AU for reference. The blog post does recommend some ways to size up with bigger crochet hooks and more rows of single crochet but I needed a fair bit of extra fabric and therefor decided to add extra squares. Because of this, I found that I needed to close in the armhole and to help create a rounded finish, I decided that the half granny square addition was the best solution. I also found that one square for the neck/head was too small and made adjustments by removing one square from the back section. I am a visual learner and creator so I created a diagram to outline the changes! I have also posted pictures of the under arm section, neck hole and the shoulder ribbing for reference.
For the yarn selection, I bought skein of each of the colours you see for the centre rounds. I didn't have a method for colour selection and added some sparkle yarns that I picked up from The Nest in Brisbane. All that to say a proper weight and measurement wouldn't be accurate and I recommend that you take the opportunity to use some of your yarn leftovers!
